Chapter Ten

Nervousness rose as Hayden closed in on the huge building with the line of people under the big sign, stating that this place was Black Ryder’s Male Strip Club. Pocketing his hand, he felt the card between his fingers and wondered what the night would bring. He’d tried to get as much of his quota done, but he was still short. He really hoped he’d get the kind of attention needed to up his game.

He moved to the front of the line and stepped back as a huge Black man turned to look at him. Hayden pulled out the card and fumbled with it, and the big guy smiled and walked his way. The smile made him look less scary and a lot hotter.

“What’s that you got there?”

“A guy gave it to me at a club and told me to come here today.”

“Ryder gave it to you? Let’s see.” The man held out his hand, and Hayden held up the card. “Yup, that’s Ryder’s chicken-scratches. Go on in and show it at the bar. They’ll tell you what to do.” The big guy held out one arm and lifted the chain with the other.

“Thanks.” Hayden headed in, seeing the shirts in glass frames covering one wall. Further ahead, he gaped at the size of the place. The bar was easy to find, but finding a spot was harder.

“You looking for someone?” the bartender asked.

“Yeah, I was told to give you this card.” Hayden held it up for the bartender to take. He looked at the back, nodded, and handed Hayden the card back.

“I’ll get Ryder for you. You want anything in the meantime?”

“Yeah, a beer.”

The bartender walked away while Hayden found payment, but the bartender just handed him the beer and walked off, so Hayden shrugged and pocketed his card again.

Half a beer later, the big man, who’d given him the card, appeared in the doorway to the bar, wearing a red dress shirt and a leather vest. If he was hot two nights ago, the air about him now was electric.

Ryder’s gaze scanned the patrons and stopped at Hayden. Then he smiled and came around the bar along with the cute guy he’d been with that night. Hayden wondered if they were a couple.

“Hi, I’m Ryder.” The big man held out his hand.

“Hayden.” He shook the strong hand.

“This is Ethan.” Ryder stepped aside for them to shake hands. “You got a beer, good. Do you have a number you want to dance to?”

“Yeah, if you got it.”

“Let’s go ask DJ.”

The three of them made their way through the many patrons and onto a podium next to the stage. Ryder talked to the DJ while the cute one took a seat and looked at the man doing impossible things on a pole. It cut into Hayden to watch because he’d once been a pretty skilled pole dancer. Nothing like what he was watching now, though, but he missed it. He missed the feeling of his body being able to defy gravity.
